What is the PJ Deejay Campaign? It was a one-year commitment by 95.7 R & B Radio personality Stephanie Thomas to help raise awareness for the need for designer clothing options for people with disabilities. What do PJ's have to do with clothing for people with disabilities? Stephanie Thomas, the "PJ Deejay", packed away ALL of her clothes for one year and RESTRICTED her wardrobe to a limited number of pajama tops, bottoms and dresses in order to demonstrate the lack of clothing options for people with disabilities. Couldn't Stephanie Thomas communicate this without wearing PJ's for 365 days? Yes, and she has been on and off for the past fifteen years - consistently for the last four years. She's spoken with major designers, marketing representatives of major fashion houses, etc. But she was ignored, dismissed or given empty promises regarding their commitment to designing clothing for people with disabilities. So Stephanie Thomas, the "PJ Deejay", took a more drastic step, sacrificing her personal love of clothes and wearing a limited number of PJ's in order to draw attention to the cause. The pajamas Stephanie Thomas, the "PJ Deejay", wear do not look like traditional pajamas. Isn't that defeating the purpose of being the PJ Deejay? No. Stephanie Thomas selected non-traditional PJ's to provide a visual illustration of how powerful pre-conceived notions can be. Sadly, the fashion industry's pre-conceived notions about people with disabilities, has caused them to overlook clothing options for the largest minority group in this country.
